HCC Swim Update - Practice and Meet Information
Good Afternoon, We are looking forward to a great swim season and I have some important information below. Please read through the entire email so you're caught up and ready to go next week. This email generally applies to swim team parents, not Guppy parents. You will receive a separate email when your program starts.
Practices START Monday
Team practices start on Monday, June 2nd. We will have evening-only practices for the first two weeks. The schedule is as follows from 6/2- 6/12.
Monday - Thursday
6:00 p.m. - 8 and under
6:30 p.m. - 9/10 age group
7:15 p.m. - 11/12 age group
8:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. - 13 and older
Time Trial Meet - June 7th at 8:30 a.m. at HCC
A time trial is an opportunity for your swimmer to get times for the various strokes. We will not swim against another team, but we will run it like a regular meet with a few tweaks. We know other sports seasons are wrapping up this weekend with tournaments, etc. If your child can attend for even part of the meet, it's very helpful especially those who are new to our team and/or moved up in age groups. We would much prefer you be there for the entirety of the meet though!
- We will need your help! There are many, many jobs open and available! Even if you cannot attend the meet, your child can bring a concession donation next week to practice! We need help in every area for the meet!
- Details about the meet and reporting times will be sent out next week. Most important thing is to declare and sign up for a job. See below on how to declare! There are only a few jobs that require a prior certification - otherwise we can teach you anything.
- While our guppy program has not started, if our guppies would like to swim for a guppy swim, please arrive by 10:00 a.m. We will take a break to let our smallest swimmers have an opportunity to swim. You can also get to know Coach Addy who will be the Guppy Coach during this time.
- After the meet, join us at the Club for a Taco Bar. Cost is $15/person. Please RSVP when you declare for the meet AND sign up to volunteer. The Club will need to know an approximate # of people.
How to Declare Meet Attendance
Please declare your attendance (or non-attendance) by Wednesday at Noon before each meet. Even if your child(ren) cannot swim on Saturday, it's important to go ahead and let us know. Get in the habit now of declaring with a yes or no to your availability.
Declaring that you're available does not guarantee that you will swim in the meet. It's letting the coaches know you are available and can be at the entire meet.
For the time trial meet everyone swims, but it's VERY helpful if you tell us that you're attending. Here's how:
- Sign in to https://hccgators.swimtopia.com
- Click on SCHEDULE
- Scroll down to each meet and click on MEET ENTRY (green box)
- Indicate whether your swimmer will be Attending or Not Attending
If you swam for another PMSL team last summer, you MUST complete the team switching form. You will not be eligible to swim in a meet until this has been done. Here's a link to the form: https://www.princemont.org/team-switching-form
Team Suit
Have you gotten your team suit? If not, here's the link to the store. https://www.swimoutlet.com/collections/hawthorneccswimteam It's the same suit as last year. There is also other team gear in the store if you're interested in purchasing. Order now because suits can take 3 or 4 weeks to arrive.
Announcer/DJ NEEDED
A really important volunteer position is our announcer/DJ. This volunteer(s) announces each event during the meet, sits near the referee and starter, plays music during the races and keeps track of what's going on. We have the equipment, but need someone to take on this challenge this year. Our former husband/wife duo don't have a swimmer this year on the team. You MUST be present at all Home meets. If you are interested, please reach out asap. This can be a really fun job and you only have to volunteer for the home meets. I'll let you take the away meets off. š
Other Info
- During practice, there should be no two-piece bathing suits nor suits with bows or strings. Females should have a one piece on. You may purchase suits from Swim Outlet, Amazon or Dick's Sporting Goods. If you look a the link above for the team store, you will see the type of suit that's expected for swim practice.
- No animals should be on the pool deck at anytime.
- If you want to smoke and/or vape, please do so in the parking lot area (either in your car or next to your car). It can get windy on top of the hill and the smoke blows into the pool area.
-Parking is always a challenge at HCC. Please do not block cars in and you may have to park in the grass going down the hill. If you want to drop your older-age swimmer off while they practice, that works too.
-Have patience, the first week may be stressful as we're getting into a new routine. Your kids will have a blast and we hope you do too! Say hello to new parents and be happy to be back for another fun summer!
Thanks for reading until the end!
Have a great weekend,
Megan
